What is Private Cloud Computing?
Private Cloud computing can be considered as a unique and privately owned Cloud environment with one or multiple users. Unlike a public Cloud architecture, a private Cloud is on-premise and secured inside the owner’s firewall.
What is Private Cloud – Private Cloud computing is where an individual or an organization sets up an a la carte Cloud environment including all necessary hardware, software, and IT components. It is dedicated to a single user with isolated access.

Although the Cloud is touted as a more feasible and scalable alternative of traditional data centers, this does not necessarily apply to private Cloud architecture. Physical hardware resources may be present on on-premise or provided by a third-party organization.
A private Cloud starts with virtualization of all physical hardware into a shared pool of virtual servers. Middleware or management software is added on top of this Cloud space to manage the infrastructure layout which may further continue to include a platform and software apps. Final scripted automation is further added to manage resource allocation or load balancing, and the private Cloud is up and ready.
Private Cloud computing can work as either Infrastructure as a Service(IaaS) or Platform as a Service(PaaS).
An organization can either utilize server virtualization for the basic infrastructural deliverables of the Cloud – compute, network, and storage. Or, it can stack a platform on top of the infrastructure to run software apps on the Cloud.

In case the private Cloud is hosted by a 3rd party, the organization can further reduce costs by utilizing resources as-needed and on-demand.

Private Clouds are scalable computing models set up behind individual firewalls and security protocols. This helps reduce multi-layer security addition and promote more efficient resource usage and work output without undermining data security.
What are the Types of Private Cloud?
Private Cloud architectures vary in how they are hosted and managed, viz. –
- Virtual – The private Cloud exists separately within a public architecture. Virtual private formats can double up as hybrid Cloud architecture as well.
- Hosted – A service provider deploys, manages, and maintains the network, hardware, and software for the private Cloud off-premise.
- Managed – The Cloud is hosted via on-premise or local data centers and managed by the 3rd party service provider.
Services offering private Cloud solutions can also offer both software and hardware or just the software. In the case of the latter, the hardware is more often than not available on-premise unless the aim is to build a hybrid Cloud setup considering that public Cloud services are already in place.
